Dear HRA Members,
The Pershing Square Sohn Cancer Research Alliance (PSSCRA), a program of The Pershing Square Foundation, will open to receive applications for its 2027 Pershing Square Sohn Cancer Prize on Monday, September 21st, 2026. While the Prize originally started in an effort to support cancer research in the greater New York City area, the eligibility has expanded to include scientists across the United States. Scientists will each be awarded $750,000 over three years to empower them to pursue groundbreaking research at a stage when traditional funding is lacking.
Applicants must have:
- Between two to six years of experience running their own laboratories by the start date of the Prize (July 2027);
- A PhD, MD or MD-PhD (or equivalent);
- Access to an environment capable of conducting high-quality, high-impact cancer research, but investigators need not be specifically trained in cancer biology;
- Tenure-track faculty appointments at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor (or equivalent) at academic research institutions (or equivalent) in the United States of America;
- Applied to the Prize only once before (i.e. applicants may apply to the Pershing Square Sohn Cancer Prize a maximum of two times);
The deadline to submit the Letter of Intent is Monday, October 26, 2026 at 5:00PM ET.

Now entering its 14th year, PSSCRA has awarded the Prize to 90 early-career scientists at 24 different institutions. PSSCRA seeks to guide philanthropic funds to feed critical scientific discoveries, attracting like-minded investors to the cause of fighting cancer. In addition to receiving funding, Pershing Square Sohn Cancer Prize winners are given access to a unique network of leaders in academia, business and venture capital, biotech and pharma industries, and philanthropy and are invited to participate in select programs.
