Health Resources in Action has recently launched the 2027 cycle of the Charles A. King Trust Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Award Program. We encourage you to disseminate this opportunity to eligible postdoctoral researchers and clinician scientists.
Join us for the King Trust Fellowship Office Hours (Register here), to be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026 from 12–1 PM ET. This informational session will be used to give applicants and institutional officers an overview of the program and answer any general questions about the program.
Program Timeline:
Initial Stage Applications are due November 10, 2026, 2PM ET.
Decisions regarding the initial stage will be announced in mid-February 2027.
Invited applicants will be asked to submit Full Proposals due March 30, 2027.
Final notification to applicants will be made in early- to mid-August 2027.
AWARD SUMMARY
Purpose:
To support research that focuses on the causes of human disease with the mission of improving its treatment. The program provides funding to postdoctoral fellows and clinician scientists in the mid- to late-stages of their research training in basic and preclinical science, and clinical and implementation research to help them achieve their goals of becoming independent investigators in biomedical research.
Award Amount:
Ranging from $200,700 to $221,600 total over two years, inclusive of a $25,000 annual flexible expense allowance.
Award Dates:
October 1, 2027 – September 30, 2029
Eligibility:
Who: Senior postdoctoral researchers and mentored clinician-scientists (MD, DO or equivalent).

Research Focus:
The program supports research across biomedical fields, that focuses on the causes of human disease with the mission of improving treatment. Applicants in research areas of cancer or vision are highly encouraged due to the availability of dedicated funding.
Applicants may apply under one of the two separate but linked programs:
Basic and Preclinical Science Program: Basic science research that seeks to increase understanding of the underlying normal and abnormal biological processes relevant to human health and disease or move findings from basic research towards clinical application.
Clinical and Implementation Research Program: Research involving human studies including physiological research, behavioral science and health education research, translational research, epidemiological research, health services and policy research, outcomes research, and research about healthcare delivery and population health, regardless of specialty or discipline.
