Strategies for collecting demographic data [March 13, 2023]
Many HRA members want to collect demographic data consistently and equitably, in order to measure the impact of any strategies that are implemented. However, although HRA members are poised to collect data, some may be reticent to do so because of the recent affirmative action cases in the news and fear of legal retaliation. Do these legal issues affect foundations and societies the same way? Does it impact data collection? What data are okay to collect, and how can those data can be used?
The DEI Learning Community held a call to learn more about the strategies for collecting demographic data consistently, equitably, and legally. We had a moderated discussion with Tim Fitzgibbon, who serves as legal counsel for the American Society of Hematology.
Please feel free to ask additional questions to those provided above. We look forward to an engaging conversation.
