The Research Workforce and Early Career Community hosted a special 90 minute discussion about mentorship on November 14th at 2-3:30PM eastern. Sarvenaz Sarabipour, PhD, from the University of Connecticut and Natalie Niemi, PhD, from Washington University at St. Louis presented data from their survey of early career researchers which identifies the met and unmet needs of early career researchers in mentorship. Constanza Miranda, PhD, the Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Mentoring at Johns Hopkins, discussed how research on mentoring can be applied to develop mentorship programs. We hope this presentation leads to further conversations about the important qualities in mentorship, what a mentorship experience means for both the mentor and mentee, and how to create the best mentorship experience possible.
