For more than 50 years, BrightFocus Foundation (www.brightfocus.org), has catalyzed scientific breakthroughs across diseases of mind and sight, awarding nearly 2,000 research grants for more than $300 million USD to scientists in 26 countries. BrightFocus provides initial funding for highly innovative, experimental ideas with the most significant promise to change a disease’s trajectory, leading to novel treatments, prevention strategies, and diagnostic tools for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia, macular degeneration, and glaucoma. Most of our grants support early-stage research, ensuring fresh perspectives and novel discoveries that fuel the field, delivering an increased return on research investment over time. BrightFocus also promotes better health through education, providing the public with information about these diseases, including risk factors, detection, current treatments, and coping strategies.
