Research Workforce and Early Career Development Community Call
On behalf of the Research Workforce and Early Career Development community, we would like to invite you to an open call on February 5th at 12PM eastern. This call will gather your input and priorities on upcoming topics for the community. We have three main ideas and would like to talk about them more on the call:
- Improving mentorship plans – as a follow up to our November meeting which shared data about mentorship, what sorts of mentorship opportunities does your organization offer? What features have you found most helpful? What models did you base this off of and how would you like to change or improve your program? What can you share to other HRA members who are exploring new mentorship and training plans?
- Managing the shifting workforce – the number of NIH fellows has stayed stagnant while new opportunities have emerged in the private sector. How have HRA organizations adapted to these changes through existing programs? Have your training plans and opportunities changed and how?
- Helping EC researchers prepare for the new administration – there has been lots of “talk” about new policies or activities in the new administration that could possibly affect not just scientific research but those who conduct it. What has been feedback from new scientists and have you been addressing it and how? What recommendations can be made to other organizations that are considering new policies or procedures in the face of potential changes to government funding of science?
Please join us to consider these topics and how to prioritize them for community calls in 2025.
